Craig hails from South Africa where he began coaching at the age of 17. Starting out by shadowing the coaches at his swim club, he was soon appointed as the Assistant Coach for Tygerberg Aquatics. There his duties included on deck coaching of swimmers from juniors through to the provincial and national swimmers and programming and planning for the Junior program.

Craig balanced both a Ba Sport Science and a B (Hons) Sport Science with his coaching in order to further his knowledge in the science of performance. In 2010 he travelled to Minnesota to partake in a summer internship where he gained valuable knowledge.

Craig is currently doing his Masters degree at the University of Regina where the focus of his program is on competitive swimming research.
